The annual YF Leadership Luncheon (YFLL) returned on Tuesday, May 21! This event brought together leaders from businesses, nonprofits, schools, and faith communities around the Twin Cities to share a meal and explore the powerful yet often overlooked idea that who you are is as important as what you lead.
Choosing to lead with character — in spite of the chaos and challenges facing us in today’s world, or perhaps because of it — matters more than ever.
We had an important conversation with our special guest and character-driven leader Shari Ballard, CEO of Minnesota United FC, on what it will take for us to create companies, communities and societies that are more “United.”
Event proceeds support Youth Frontiers’ character-based programs for students and educators.
Please contact Riley Moynihan at rmoynihan@youthfrontiers.org if you would like information about sponsoring next year’s event. Proceeds will help to fund YF’s character development work with 60,000 youth and adults this programmatic year.
Shari Ballard
CEO of Minnesota United FC
This year, we are honored to welcome Shari Ballard as our featured YFLL speaker. As a long-time Twin Cities resident and current CEO of Minnesota United FC, Shari is one of our community’s character-driven leaders. Before joining MNUFC, she was a former Best Buy executive with more than 25 years of experience, growing from an assistant store manager to the president of multichannel retail at Best Buy Co. Inc.
Shari has shared her excitement about working for Minnesota United, a team rooted in its community and explicit in its core values: resilience, inclusivity, dedication, passion, teamwork and respect. She is also active in her board of directors roles with Ecolab, Inc., PetSmart, and Allina Health, and also serves on the board of trustees for the University of Minnesota Foundation. She was named one of Fortune Magazine’s “Fifty Most Powerful Women in Business” five times (2010, 2011, 2015, 2016, 2017).

For more than 35 years, Youth Frontiers has been inspiring character, civility and community through our dynamic retreats, first for students, then for the important adults in their lives — the parents, educators and leaders who are shaping our shared world. On each of our programs, we equip youth and adults alike with the common language of character and challenge them to live with greater kindness, courage, curiosity and respect. Since 1987, we have reached more than 2 million people with our powerful programs.
